The chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Alieu Momarr Njai, has announced that three candidates have been nominated to contest for the December 1st presidential election in The Gambia. The trio is Mamma Kandeh of the GDC, Adama Barrow an Independent Candidate and the incumbent President Jammeh.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) hereby gives notice that the following persons approved by the Returning Officer, Alieu Momarr Njai, have been deemed to be duly nominated to contest the election for the office of President of the Republic of The Gambia.
Particulars of Candidates
- Name: Mamma Kandeh, Nominated by GDC, Colour: Purple, Symbol: Open calabash in two palms
- Name: Adama Barrow, Independent Candidate, Colour: Grey, Symbol: Right hand with the index finger pointing upwards
- Name: Sheikh Prof. Alh. Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa, Nominated by APRC, Colour: Green, Symbol: Palm tree with a hoe and paddle
The election will take place on Thursday 1st December 2016 and the Campaign will start on 16th November and end on 29th November.
