Sixty-one UDP supporters have defected and joined the ruling APRC party ahead of the December 1, Presidential Election in The Gambia.
Forty-four supporters of the opposition party from Kombo North plus another 17 in Tallinding have announced they’ve joined the ruling party. The defection took place on Sunday at a meeting in Busumbala and Buffer Zone in Tallinding attended by the leader and founder of the ruling APRC party, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh, Babili Mansa. It followed a similar defection of 60 NRP supporters to the ruling party.
Speaking before thousands that attended the meeting, Rohey Sarr, one of the defectors said, “From today, we are behind President Jammeh and we will forever be loyal to the APRC party. We thanked Allah for showing us light and we regret all the years spent supporting UDP. We have defect to the APRC for the sake of Allah,” she said.
