18 months for motor bike thief

africa » gambia
Friday, December 19, 2008
Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh of the Kanifing Magistrates Court on Thursday convicted one Samba Camara and sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment after he was found guilty of stealing a motor bike.

According to the particulars of the offence, Samba Camara in October 2008 along Kairaba Avenue in the Kanifing Municipality, stole a motor cycle valued at D20,000. The bike is said to be the property of one Mamading Nyang.

Samba Camara, who pleaded guilty to the offence, in his mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy. He added that he will never commit the offence again as this will be the last time.

Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh in his judgement said motor vehicle theft is on the increase and the court must put a stop to the act. He then gave him the 18 months mandatory jail term. Inspector Mariama Fatty stood in for the IGP.
