Star on parade

africa
Monday, October 29, 2007

Nfansu Bojang has been one of the hottest players in Real de Banjul over the last season, carrying forward his exploits from the previous seasons.

His youthful zeal, combined with running power and the ability to give defenders the slip, quickly endeared him to the fans.

A native of Sukuta, Bojang starred for both Sukuta Primary and Upper Basic School teams, before proceeding to Saint Augustine's Senior Secondary School. It was at Saint Augustine's that Physical Education teachers started to spot a distinct skill in him.

Before graduating from St. Augustine's, Bojang had already written his name in the school's history book, having guided them to clinch Senior Secondary Inter-school Football Championships in 2004.

From the school system, Bojang showed no sign of turning back, as he continues a fine run of form, with his native nawettan side, Air Force United. Despite his failure to land Air Force the cup, Bojang's natural talent did not go unnoticed.

In 2005, he could not be left out of the Sukuta Zonal team as young as he was. And he made his presence felt when he guided the relatively unknown town to claim the 2005 Zonal Cup - their first Zonal Cup in many years.

In 2006-07, Bojang established himself in the Real de Banjul side, taking part in what was an inspirational end to the season for the renowned Banjul club. It was Real de Banjul's first league title in 10 years.

Bojang continued to establish himself as one of nation's best left-sided midfielders. His strong running and long stride makes it  hard to be pinned down. He can be a danger when on the end of crosses too.

If the Sukuta teenager can continue to play with consistency while scoring spectacular and important goals, then he could well establish himself in the national team. It may only be a matter of time before he can make a name for himself at the international level.
