Guinea-Bissau's ambassador to The Gambia, Maeia Munira Jauda Ribeiro, on Tuesday, held a meeting with Guinea-Bissau nationals in her office, along the Atlantic Road in Fajara.

The meeting was meant to discuss issues concerning the welfare of  Guineans in The Gambia, and 'the way forward'.

Addressing her fellow nationals in her office, Ambassador Maeia Munira Jauad Ribeiro expressed gratitude over the way and manner Guineans comport themselves in The Gambia. She urged them to endeavour to keep the spirit of togetherness that prevails among them. She called on them to remain steadfast, to help one another, calling for harmonisation of their issues and concerns for presentation to her office.

The Bissau  ambassador also used the occasion to remind her fellow citizens of their to forthcoming election slated for November, this year.

On Banjul-Bissau relations, the ambassador stressed the significance for the peoples of the two countries to live as one. She preached patriotism, respect and love for one another; calling on the Guinean community to honour the flag of their country. She hinted that plans are underway to have Guinean nationals extend helping hand to President Jammeh's farming activities in Kanilai, most likely during the harvesting period. Other speakers at the meeting expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to their ambassador, urging her to continue the 'good work', as she is here to represent the president and the people of Guinea Bissau. They promised to be united and to help her in her pursuit of a successful mission in The Gambia.

Shortly after the meeting, in an interview with the Daily Observer, Ambassador Ribeiro sought to advise her colleagues to emulate Gambians in demonstration of respect for leadership.

She pledged her office's unreserved commitment towards fostering the bilateral relationship that ties Banjul and Bissau, citing trade, fisheries, health, justice and agriculture as areas of co-operation bearing promising prospects for the two peoples.
