The Chairman of the board of directors  of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), Mustapha Colley, accompanied by the managing director of the company, Momodou Jallow, on Wednesday concluded a day's tour of facilities and installations under their purview. The tour party, which included the deputy MD of NAWEC, Sira Wally-Ndow-Njie, inspected a number of instulations dotted around the Greater Banjul area and Brikama.

The delegation first visited the Global Electrical Group and Ballast Nedam, in Brikama, before going to the Sukuta Water Treatment Plant, Bijilo Sub-station, Koto Sewage, Kotu Power Plant, and finally settled at the Fajara Booster Station.

Speaking shortly after the tour closed, Mustapha Colley, chairman, board of directors of NAWEC, disclosed that the tour was meant to familiarise themselves with the mode of operation of facilities under the company. According to him, they were quite impressed with what they saw, and he added that the tour had provided them with the opportunity to get first hand information, which might help in effort to improve on the delivery system of the company.

He urged officers of the company to improve the working environment for its staff, "for the benefit of our national development and the productivity of the company."

Mr Colley assured them of the board's readiness to work hand in glove with the management of the company to facilitate the easy accomplishment of their vision and mission.  He further stated that the board would do all it would take to make sure that the company was taken to higher height.

This, according to board director, was in line with the vision of His Excellency, the president of the Republic, Alhajie Dr Yahya Jammeh.

For his part, the managing director of NAWEC, Mr Momodou Jallow, thanked the new board of directors for coming up with this idea of touring the company's facilities, adding that it demonstrated keen interest on the part of the board, in seeing for themselves the operation of the company. This, he said, was a good sign for the company.

On the constraints and how to take the company forward. Mr Jallow expressed his company's willingness to work with the new board for the settlement of the country's electricity problems.

Other members of the delegation included Mr Sholar Joiner, Sheikh Omar Sallah, Mam Fatim Singhateh, honourable Bintading Jarju, Mustapha Yabo, all of them members of the board.
