Baba Maal due in town soon

Reports reaching What's On indicated that the Senegalese born Mbalax star Baba Maal and his band will hold a big live concerts in The Gambia next week.

The three-day fun-filled event is exclusively organised by The Mighty Champion DJ Lamin Cham of the Champion Sound Promotions and is geared towards promoting Senegambian artistes and music through culture.

During the course of the concerts, the Senegalese superstar is will perform, alongside three other prominent Gambian stars namely, The Gambia's Kora maestro Jaliba Kuyateh and his Kumareh Band, Sambou Suso, the melodious voice of Manding and The Gambia's Mbalax sensation Pa Omar Jack, fondly called 'Mr Fish and Chip'.

They are expected to perform live at Jokor Brikama, Paradise Suites Hotel near Senegambia and Jokor Westfield on May 9, 10 and 11th.

Speaking in an interview with What's On, the Champion DJ said all the venues are set ahead of the big come-back show.

"As you known our young stars are full of talents. Remember that the Senegalese Mbalax star (Maal) is coming with full force to rock the city," he said.

According to him, bringing Senegalese artistes to The Gambia is another efforts towards cementing the bilateral between the two countries, noting that this will also enable Gambian music enthusiasts to have a taste of Senegalese artistes who are making headlines in Europe and in Americas.
