Monday, May 05, 2008
Latri Kunda Upper Basic School, on Friday, May 2, decorated over eighty students with handsome prizes for their heroic achievements in both the academic and sports arenas, at a prize giving ceremony held at the school's ground, on Kairaba Avenue, Serrekunda.

Students who scored between aggregate 6 and 12 in the last term's examinations were each awarded a prize, while athletes who finished between first and third positions during the school's annual inter-house sports competition, were awarded certificates.

The school administration also used the occasion to hand over to the school athletic team the second-best title, won during the April 2008 inter-schools athletics championship finals.

According to the school principal, Mrs Mary A. Allen, the decoration was meant to encourage the pupils to improve on their performances. While congratulating the awardees for their achievement, Mrs Allen urged other students to improve on their performance so that they would be rewarded come another award ceremony.

She also heaped praises on the school's athletics team for their honourable performance at the recent inter-schools competition.

Friday's ceremony, which was graced by teachers and pupils of the school, was characterised by an educative drama, which touched on the dangers and preventive methods of Malaria, one of the deadly diseases in the continent.
