Niamina West chief fired

africa » gambia » central river region
Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Unimpeachable sources have revealed to the Daily Observer that Alhaji Kekuta Jawo, the chief of Niamina West, Central River Region (CRR), has been sacked on Monday, May 5.

The former district chief has been replaced by Ngai Sama Dampha, a native of Pinyai Village in CRR. Meanwhile, our sources could not shed light on the reason for Mr Jawo's removal.

This development follows the removal of a number of chiefs, including Haruna Sabally of Jarra Central, Moro Jawla of Sami, Sambujang Jagne of Farafenni and Kabiro Kanteh of Central Baddibu.

When contacted, Ngai Dampha, the newly appointed chief, who is also a staff of the Agency for the Development of Women and Children (ADWAC ) in Kerewan, North Bank Region (NBR), confirmed that he had received his appointment letter on Monday morning while at work.

Mr Dampha has worked with the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as a village monitor and later joined GAMBELTER, a company which deals in sesame seeds with local farmers.

He also worked with ADWAC as a field coordinator, before his promotion to Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant in Kerewan; a position he occupied until his recent appointment as the chief of Niamina West.

Ganyie Touray, the Governor of CRR, also confirmed the appointment of Ngai Sama Dampha as the new chief of Niamina West.
