Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Sereign Modou Joof, the public relations officer, who doubles as the administrative officer of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), has disclosed that his council had earmarked over one million dalasis to be invested back on robust development projects for its rates and tax payers, for the year 2008.

PRO Joof made this remark during an interview with our area correspondent, in his office at the council premises. According to him, the development the council is set to embark on are the construction of Nema Ward Road, which links to the Brikama car park, Brikama Forestry and Fire Service road and the Nyambai road.  BAC, he said, had ploughed over D439,000 in this projects with Saro and Sons Company as the gravel contractor" he said.

According to PRO Joof, the move was part of the council's response to its social services in a quest to satisfy the needs of the tax payers in Western Region. In the same vein, he added, the council is also looking at other priority areas which would go a long way in paving the way for the modernisation of the region.

Sunkari Badjie, chairman of the Council, also highlighted that his council is a service provider. He reiterated that the move was among BAC's primary obligations to plough back tangible developments for its rates and tax payers. He then urged residents to be steadfast in paying their dues, stressing that timely and regular paying would immensely benefit them in return.

Constraints

While pronouncing the developments earmarked for 2008, Chairman Badjie noted that there were other areas of constraints which were needed to be improved on to facilitate easy work for the council. He said some of those areas included the availability of vehicles and tractors as well as non payment of rates by the tax payers.
