The New Apostolic Church branch in Bundung through the New Apostolic Church in Germany handed over a new borehole and a hand pump worth D400, 000 to the community of Sami and surrounding villages in Niumi in the North Bank Region.

A five member delegation including  Evangelist Tony Ennin and Henrietta Mbayo, Denis Domingo, a priest, Barbosa-Tu, a District elder and Mehsen Diab from FMK drilling company, officially handed over the project to the community at a ceremony held at the village over the weekend.

Evangelist Tony Ennin, who handed over the project on behalf of the church, explained that the initiative is part of his church's humanitarian assistance towards their brothers and sisters across the board.

Evangelist Ennin further stated that his church has over the years been rendering similar services to other communities in The Gambia. He  quickly urged the beneficiaries to  maintain and safeguard the borehole for the future generation. He also thanked the Department of Water Resources for their invaluable support towards the project.

For his part, Sheikh Pen, the chairman of the Village Development Committee, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the New Apostolic Church for the timely intervention. According to him, the village which has a population of over 500 people has always encountered water shortage as they had few wells which sometimes lack enough water.

Amat Joof, Alkalo of Sami and Baboucarr Sowe, Aalkalo of Kerr Galloh both echoed the chairman's statement and assured the donors that the gift will be used to the best interest of the community.

Alhagie Tabora Manneh, the chief of Lower Niumi, thanked the donors for complementing government's efforts towards national development. He assured the donors that  the humanitarian gesture will go a long way towards uplifting the standard of living  for the community.

Barbasa-Tu, a District elder of the church in North Bank Region, disclosed that his church has a membership of 360 in the James Island division of the North Bank Region.
