The newly appointed chief of sami district Alhagie Kassum Leigh was recently sworn-in at Sami pachonki village in the Central River Region north.

The swearing in and flag raising ceremonies were administered by the Governor of the region, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, and attended by thousands of people from the district and other defectors to the ruling APRC party.

Addressing the gathering, Edward Seckan, the governor for North Bank Region, welcome the defectors to the APRC party.  He urged them to strengthen their unflinching support to President Yahya Jammeh and the APRC party, noting that the Gambian leader is dynamic with good intentions for The Gambia.

He also advised the new chief to live up to expectation and called on the people to give him maximum support for the smooth running of the district.

For his part, Honourable Sainey Mbye, National Assembly Member for Upper Saloum and Central River Region Desk Officer, thanked the defectors for the good decision of joining the APRC party. He stated that President Jammeh is the only leader who can bring development in the area.  He seized the opportunity to call on the people of Sami and the entire Central River Region to respond positively to President Yahya Jammeh's "back to the land"call.

Kebba Fanta Comma, who was the acting chief of the district,  described Chief Alhagie Kassoum Leigh as hard working and dedicated,he therefore called on the people of Sami to rally behind him.

Other speakers included Alhagie Omar Khan, Governor of Upper River Region, Alhagie Karamo Ceesay, chief of upper saloum, Alhagie Omar Mambureh and Ndey Jeng, Lady councillor.
