The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) has began a major refurbishment at Armitage Senior Secondary School in Janjangbureh, Central River Region.

The school was opened in January 1927, by Governor Sir Cecil Armitage for sons of chiefs (traditional rulers) numbering 35 in the country. 
The aim of the school was to absorb these elites into the local government administration upon completion.
 
Ebrima Joof, the principal of the school, said GPA will not only refurbish the school, but will also furnish the classrooms, and provide 600 mattresses and mosquito nets to the school.

He also spoke at length on the numerous assistance rendered to the school by GPA.  He described Armitage Senior Secondary School as a government co-educational institution.
Mr Joof then commended GPA for their laudable contribution to the education sector.

He added that this will go a long way in complementing government's effort in the infrastructural development of the school.
He further revealed that between 2006-2007, GPA has refurbished the science lab and provided equipment worth over D250,000 to the school.
He then called on other donor agencies and philanthropists to emulate GPA's generosity.
