The travelling magistrate, Amadou Baldeh, at the Bansang Magistrates Court, recently sentenced one Malick Ceesay, a  businessman and resident of Banjulinding in the Kombo North, to pay a sum of D10,000, in default to serve 2 years imprisonment with hard labour. He was also ordered to pay the sum of D370,861 to 139 farmers, in default to serve 4 years imprisonment.

Malick Ceesay was arraigned before Magistrate Amadou Baldeh charged with obtaining goods by false pretense, contrary to the law of The Gambia.

When the charge sheet was read to him, Mr Ceesay pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him.

In his mitigation plea, Mr Ceesay appealed to the court to be given the chance to go and negotiate with Gamco. The prosecutor, 493 Badjie, told the court that Mr Ceesay owed farmers money since December 2006. "They are yet to be paid," he said.
Mr Ceesay was then sentenced accordingly.
