The reward for one's sweat is the greatest of rewards in the eyes of God. This makes it a dignified undertaking to engage in farming. The farmer does not only serve as a source of food for himself and his family, but also serves as a hope for humanity. This is the stage The Gambia is heading for.

There is every indication that the country is set to reap a record bumper harvest this year, courtesy of the rigorous campaign inspired by  the 'back-to-the-land,' principle, coupled, of course, with the indispensable support of the blessing of the heavens, in the form of abundant rains. With the help of God, we shall reap what we rightfully deserve, after months of dedication and hard work.

Developments in Kanilai alone are promising; not only do they show that the people have really responded to President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh's call, but it also suggests that they have rediscovered the real face of wisdom. This is not only manifested in their participation in the president's farming activities, but the fact that community based farming activities have taken center stage. And individual family farms have not at all been left behind in this new development.  

One of our reporters happens to be a living witness to this, as he went round the entire country, gauging the conspicuous prospect of a rewarding season. This follows the point put forward by a number of people in authority, among them the governors of URR and CRR, who have been in the middle of this crusade in their regions. Also to be remembered are members of the national assembly select committee on agriculture, whose impression of the outcome of the season, after touring the entire length and breadth of the country, was uplifting.
