Two Senegalese citizens (Hadim Abdou Jallow & Demba Ceesay) were, on Monday, 29th September, brought before Magistrate George of the Banjul Magistrates Court, on the charge of entering The Gambia without a passport.

According to the particulars of the offense, on 3rd September, 2008, between 9:46am and 9:48am at the ferry terminal, the accused, Hadim Abdou Jallow and Demba Ceesay, were caught without the necessary documents to enter the country.

The first accused, Hadim Abdou Jallow, was said to have been intercepted by police officers as he walked out of the terminal. When asked for his document, he told the police that he was a Gambian but that he had forgotten his identity card in Brikama. He however later confessed that he was a Senegalese citizen.

The second suspect, Demba Ceesay, admitted his Senegalese nationality saying that he had been adviced to come to The Gambia by Hadim Abdou Jallow, who had assured him that he would secure a job for him.  He had initially told the officers that his documents had been stolen in Barra, before joining the ferry.

The duo pleaded guilty and appealed for forgiveness, claiming that it was all a mistake.  The magistrate later recommended their deportation to their native Senegal.
