Abdou Jammeh scores in Lierse trial

Monday, February 23, 2009
Gambian international defender Abdou Jammeh alias T-Boy scored a rare goal as he continues his trials with Belgian second division side SK Lierse in a reserve game on Friday.

The utility defender who can play at centre back or the right side of the defense has being on trials with the Belgian outfit since he parted company with Russian second tier side FC Torpedo Moscow at the end of January. Jammeh alongside fellow triallist Ahmed Atwa from Egypt both started the match with the Gambian international playing at right back.

In a poor first half, Lierse were only able to threaten with shots from distance. The best chance was for the visitors, but firstly Van Der Jeugt and then the post saved Lierse. In the second half, the playing level increased somewhat, but the tempo was still very low.

Nikolic and Winothai both came close to a goal, but it was the Gambian Jammeh who scored with a nice shot from distance. T-Boy collected the ball from 25 yards and sends in a powerful screamer into the top right corner of the net to give Lierse the lead with only a couple of minutes remaining on the clock. And Nikolic broke free of his marker and made it 2-0 deep into stoppage time.
