A two-day Mathematics workshop for students has recently ended at Aja Fatou Bojang Senior Secondary School in Albreda.

The training session brought about one hundred students across the North Bank Region (NBR) and was facilitated by the Youth Care Foundation (YCF). In his opening remarks, Mr Lamin Faal, principal of Aja Fatou Bojang Senior Secondary School, elaborated on the factors that contributed to the low performance of students in mathematics subject. According to him, pure maths constitutes an everyday issue as one will find mathematics in not only schools, but also markets and other public places such as offices. Students, he said, should create wholesome interest in mathematics, as it is the basis of all immediate and future endeavours.

Highlighting on the students performance in mathematics examination, Faal disclosed that the report released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in 2008 produce a great decline of students' performance in mathematics. For his part, Max Njie, a University of The Gambia (UTG) student of who also doubles as a teacher at Aja Fatou Bojang Senior Secondary School, hailed Youth Care Foundation for the bold initiative and resolve to help students build interest in mathematics. Speaking on the objectives of the Mathematics Club at his school, Njie revealed that, the club was basically has tasked itself with the arduous task to promote students interest in all aspects of mathematics in order to provide formative programs and challenges among students within the school.

The ceremony marked the club's inauguration of the mathematic teachers and the founding student members of the schools. The commitment speech was delivered by Mr Kolapo Abdul, the Director of Youth Care Foundation
