Carnegie Mineral case update

africa » gambia » kanifing
Sunday, January 25, 2009
The Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by Principal Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay, on Friday adopted both a submission and counter-submission made by the defence counsel and the prosecutor respectively in the ongoing criminal trial in which the operations manager of the Kombo Beach Hotel, Marc Maurice Alfred Vanmaldeguni, is the accused person.

Lawyer Badou Conteh, counsel for the accused person, has filed a written address to the court for a no case submission but this was countered by the police prosecutor, Cadet Inspector Mballow, who also filed a written reply to that effect.

Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay then adopted both addresses on the matter.  She adjourned the case to Friday, February 6 for ruling on the issue. The accused, a Dutchman, is on trial for aiding Charles Andrew Northfield, the former managing director of Carnegie Minerals, to flee from justice.

He also stands accused of communicating with and entering the said Northfield's room at the Kombo Beach Hotel to remove his personal effects without duly informing the right authorities.
