Dresden Banjul Organisation (DBO), a German company based in The Gambia, on Saturday, embarked on a cleansing exercise on the Sukuta Sabiji dumpsite, during the operation clean the nation exercise, known as set-settal.

Speaking to the Daily Observer during the exercise, Heinz Borman, director of Dresden Banjul Organisation (DBO), promised to continue helping the people of Sukuta. Mustapha Jallow, senior programme officer environment quality, noted that the Sukuta dumpsite had been a long-term problem for its residents. According to him, the National Environment Agency (NEA) was aware of the problem but could not get rid of the dumpsite on time.

He added that residents of Sukuta were initially taking a wrong direction by confronting KMC, when Sukuta is directly under Brikama Area Council (BAC).  Jallow urged the people of Sukuta to keep the environment clean for their own health.

A Sukuta youth mobliliser, ASP Yaya Manneh of the Gambia Immigration Department, spoke at length on the negative impacts of the dumpsite which he said he and his people had been planning to eliminate for the past three years. Manneh finally assured that the place will be kept clean and he thanked Heinz Borman for the magnificent job.

For his part, Lamin Bah, co-ordinator, DBO, implored on the people of Sukuta to request for a tractor from Brikama Area Council for refuse collection. Nyomi Cham, women mobiliser of Sukuta, also expressed similar sentiments.
