Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Teachers from Elmley Castle CE First School in the United Kingdom recently concluded a four-day visit to Kerr Sait Maram Lower Basic School in Niani District, Central River Region North.

During the visit, they donated reading and learning materials to the school. The items were worth over thirty thousand dalasis. They also inaugurated the VSO House built by the community and the school vegetable garden sponsored by the VSO. In her remarks, the head mistress of the school, Tida Touray, thanked the donors for their gesture, noting that the items will go a long way in contributing to the quality of education in the region.

She said that the vegetable garden sponsored by the VSO office is both for the community and the school.  She then observed that the garden will not only improve the nutritional status of the women and children but will generate income in order to reduce poverty. Lamin Juwara, the senior education officer for Region Five, assured the donors that the items donated will be put to  good use. He said since the establishment of the link in 2007, both schools have been benefiting from exchange visits.

Sue Johnson, a teacher from Elmley Castle School commended both the community and staff of Kerr Sait Maram for their hospitality.  She urged them to make the best use of the donated items. Momodou Kanyi, principal, Niani Senior School, chaired the ceremony.
