Gambia-Gabon clash cancelled

africa » gambia
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
The international friendly match arranged between the Gambia Scorpions and Gabon Black Panthers was called-off yesterday in Paris, France, after a bad weather hit the European city, Observer Sports has gathered.

A make-up date has not been announced but sources closed to the Scorpions camp in Paris have it that the game may no longer hold.
"The present weather condition in Paris is so bad that our game against Gabon was cancelled," Sweden-based striker Aziz Corr Nyan told Observer Sports yesterday from his Paris camp.

Asked whether a make-up date has been fixed by the organisers, the crafted forward who did not hide frustration at the cancellation said: "We were only told that the game has been cancelled. Thought it is not confirm yet, but the game may not go ahead because most of the players have to catch up with their clubs in the coming days."

Gabon was banging on the clash to test their readiness for the 2010 combined World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers, which resume in March, while the Scorpions coach Paul Put was of the hope that the friendly will help to expose Gambian players, having narrowly missed out on a spot in the final joint qualifying series.
