The Gambia Schooling Fund, a charitable organisation in Brikama, was last Tuesday in court claiming D380,000 from one Yasa Sambou and Atlantic Construction and Merchandise, as first and second defendants respectively.

In his evidence before Magistrate Kayodeh of the Brikama Magistrate court, Alieu BS Sowe, the managing director of Gambia Schooling Fund told the court that his organisation was approached by Yasa Sambou, the first defendant about a building the charitable organization has in Brikama to convert it to a skill centre. He said Yasa told them that there where some Danish charitable organisations that were interested in a skill centre and they had already given him (Yasa), D120.000, but the money needed to convert the place into a skill centre was about D700.000.

Sowe said his organisation then gave D380,000 to Yasa Sambou for the work to start at the said building and if the place is completed, Yasa Sambou will have it for five years as least property from Gambia Schooling Fund. He said the Sambou never fulfill their part of the contract agreement. At that juncture, Magistrate Kayodeh adjourned the case to 24 February, to enter judgment in favour of the plaintiff since the defendants failed to appear in court on several occasions.
