Momodou C Joof, director general (DG) of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), has disclosed that The Gambia is set to host the first ever Senegalo-Gambian steering committee on Kankurang, to be attended by officials from the two governments in Senegal and The Gambia.

According to reports, this committee was supposed to meet in The Gambia early in December 2008 but could not. The National Centre for Arts and Culture boss made this revelation  at a one-day national committee meeting on the UNESCO-sponsored Kankurang Centre to be established in Janjanbureh. The meeting was held at the conference hall of the Friendship Hotel, on 11th April 2009.

Joof gave a brief historical background on the Kanjurang Centre and the establishment of the joint Senegalo-Gambian steering committee for the safeguard of the Kankurang tradition for today and the future generations. He added that members of the committee will be drawn from different cultural institutions of both countries.
