The Gambia Under 17 team claimed their second CAF Under 17 title, after an impressive 3-1 victory over hosts Algeria in the final match of the 8th Edition African Under 17 Championship on Thursday.

At a packed stadium, the Gambians defied the huge home crowd for the hosts to cling unto victory. A brace from Alasana Camara and a goal from top marksman Ebrima Bojang powered the Gambians to the continental title since winning it on home soil four years ago. Algerian striker Bendahmane Nadir scored for the hosts but it was not enough to change the tide in his side's favour. The result saw the Gambia confirm their superiority over the hosts after beating them 2-0 in their earlier meeting at the group stage. Star striker Ebrima Bojang opened the scoring after only 7 minutes with a diving header from close range.

His strike partner, Alasana Camara, doubled the lead in the 22nd minutes. Two minutes to the break, Bendahmane reduced the deficit for his side from the spot after Bezzaz Abdelhakim was fouled by Gambian goalkeeper Musa Camara in the penalty area. The goal restored the confidence of the hosts who launched consistent raids into the half of the Gambians in their quest to draw even.

Five minutes from time, Camara sealed victory for the Baby Scorpions with his second of the day by slamming into the yawning net after a perfect pass from Bojang. Shortly after the final whistle thousands of Baby Scorpions'  faithful stormed the streets back home in The Gambia to celebrate the sweet victory. The sports-loving Gambian leader Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh also joined the celebrations as he declared Friday a public holiday in honour of the team's heroic performance.
