GFA Division One League round-up

africa » gambia
Sunday, February 22, 2009
The Week One fixtures in the GFA Division One League ended last night with some surprise scores.

Defending champions Wallidan were held to a 1-1 draw by arch rivals Steve Biko at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium on Sunday, while Brikama United became the first newcomers in many years to collect the whole three points in an opening game. Ebou Cole's 58th minute strike sealed the maximum points for the Western Region side against the Africell-Sait Matty side who faced a long trip from Brikama mini-stadium empty handed.

Earlier on Saturday, Gamtel took off to a winning start after a 1-0 victory against Real de Banjul at the Manjai Kunda playground, while Hawks also ease past Tallinding United with a similar score.

Armed Forces were not in a good day and things got worse when new signing Baboucarr Badjan was sent off for a horror tackle in their 0-1 defeat against Sea View on Friday. Coach Alagie Sarr's new signing Pa Modou Ngum scored Sea View's only goal in the 52nd minutes in an action-packed game played at the Independence Stadium. Elsewhere on the same day, Bakau United held Super Cup champions Samger to a goalless draw at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.
