The Gambia Football Association First Division League begins today, that means kicking off several months of entertainment and top-class action from the top flight of the country's football league.

The official opening comes on the heel of the Super Cup final, which saw Samger beat double winners Wallidam 2-1 to lift the traditional trophy. In the first matches today, Samger take on Bakau United. Sea View are in action too, against Armed Forces at the Independence Stadium. On Saturday, newcomers Tallinding United will start their season against Hawks, while Gamtel face Real de Banjul on the same day.

Wallidan will be hoping to put behind their Super Cup flop when they take on bitter rivals Steve Biko on Sunday.  On the same day, the Western Region boys Brikama United will begin their first-ever season in the top flight of Gambian football when they play host to Africell-Sait Matty.
