Governor Touray receives RAFAM executive

The executive members of the Rural Association Against Malaria (RAFAM), a community based organisation in URR, recently called on the governor of  the Central River Region, Alhagie Ganyie Touray.

Briefing the governor about the organisation, Momodou Bilo Jallow, the secretary general said  the organisation was established in January 2006 and opened in all the seven districts in the URR to help in the area of malaria prevention and control, HIV/AIDS awareness creation and senistise people on the effect of environment degradation and tuberculosis.

Tentu Manneh, the social secretary of the organisation revealed that RAFAM has a membership of 329 and 234 affiliated groups in both URR and CRR. He said their main aim is to consolidate and complement government efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria control and prevention and control of tuberculosis in the rural Gambia. He noted that the aforementioned diseases have diverse effect on the lives of people.

Alhagie Genyie Touray, the regional governor, commended RAFAM executive for their benevolent gesture. He said that this will go a long way in supplementing government efforts in the prevention and control of malaria in the country as well as increase awareness on HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.
