Lower Fulladu monthly cleansing exercise a success

africa
Wednesday, April 01, 2009
The regional environment committee, in collaboration with security personnel and the community of Lower Fulladu, last Saturday participated in the monthly cleansing exercise known as set-settal.

Lamin Samateh, the NEA regional environment inspector, said the committee had chosen the Brikama-ba market and Jahally Health Centre for the exercise. He said that the weekly market in Brikama-ba is one of the biggest in the region and attracts many businessmen and women from The Gambia and the Senegalese southern region of Cassamance.

He called on the market vendors to participate in the exercise regularly. Speaking to our Janjangbureh correspondent shortly after the exercise, Lamin Manneh, the regional health officer, said environment sanitation is to create and maintain conditions that will promote health and prevent diseases. According to him, the monthly set-settal will go a long way in maintaining clean and healthy communities. He called on the people in the area to maintain the momentum and always particpate in the exercise.

The commissioner of police, Amadou Sabally, also spoke at length on the importance of the monthly set-settal which was initiated by President Jammeh to keep the environment clean. He commended all those who participated in the exercise.
