Man docked for obtaining money under false pretext

One Modou Njie was yesterday arraigned before the Kanifing magistrate's court presided over by magistrate Sagarr Jahateh, on charge of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 228 of the criminal code.

According to the particular of the offense, Modou Njie did on August 4, 2008 in Serekunda in the Kanifing municipality, he unlawfully took D17,000 from one Ansu Touray, 14,000 from Nfamara Jatta, 10,000 from Ebrima Gassama, 17,000 from Lamin Congira, all value at D58,000 with the pretext that he will take them to spain having known that it's a false pretence.

When the charge sheet was read to Modou Njie, he however pleaded not guilty to the charge prefer against him. Magistrate Sagan Jahateh then granted him bail in the sum of D50,000 with and affidavit of mcans.

She also order that the surety of Modou Njie must deposit his ID card with the court registrate. The case was adjourned to January 19, 2009 for continuation. First class 319 Jobe stood in for the IGP.
