Re- OB Conateh

africa » gambia
Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Editor,

Kindly allow me space to add my words to the aforementioned; as I send my best wishes and congratulations to one of a few persons I can always call patriotic; a person who bleeds Gambia. That is no other person than the gift to Gambian youths, Mr Ousman Bassi Conateh (OB Conateh).

The latest honor bestowed upon him by WAFU is both timely and deserving because of his tireless over 25 years of great service to the football union. OB, as he is commonly known in sporting cycles, was instrumental from day one in the establishment of WAFU, and the just concluded championship was a dream come true.

For many years, I worked on the opposite side of the bench to him and he would be the first to tell  you that we gave them a run for their money in both football and basketball; but one thing that stands out about this man is his passion and commitment to what he does. He has been in a world of his own when we talk about development of Gambian sports and I mean throughout the length and breath of our country.

As we join OB in celebrating this addition to a great resume, we thank him for his many years of great and valuable service to The Gambia and the youth in particular. We hope soon, one of the roads leading to the Independence Stadium will be named, 'Alhagi Ousman Bassi Conateh Stadium Lane.'

A grateful nation and people saluted you for your work for humanity.
