Thursday, March 05, 2009
Serrekunda United will this season make their maiden appearance in the Gambia Football Association Second Division League and the club's promotion to the second tier league came much to the delight of sports enthusiasts in the populace town.

The Serrekunda side berthed a second tier spot after a brilliant display in the GFA triangular tournament and the newcomers' secretary general, Lamin Sillah, has told Observer Sports that his club's promotion to the second division league was a dream comes true.

Acknowledging the unflinching support the team had enjoyed from their fans during the qualifying campaign, Sillah urged the people of Serrekunda to renew their support to the team as they represent the town in the second-most prestigious domestic league. He added that the qualification of the team to the second division was just the beginning, hinting that lot of challenges  lie ahead of them. "It is good to play in the second division, but you would need fund to maintain the team," he said.

He added: "After confirming our place in the second division, we all know that was not the end because we would need fund to maintain the team. So we will receive with open arm any individual or company willing to give us a helping a hand."
