VP Njie-Saidy presides over Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Zonal Cup final

The Vice President of the Republic, Dr Ajaratou Isatou Njie-Saidy, accompanied by other dignitaries, on Saturday presided over the grand final of Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Zonal football   which saw Bakau beat Banjul to lift the coveted title.

Presenting the winner prize at the jam-pack Serrekunda East mini-stadium, Vice President Njie-Saidy extended the President and First Lady's appreciation to the Gambia Football Association for its gesture in honoring their son - Muhammed Yahya Jammeh. She also congratulated the winning team, Bakau, hinting that the victory was a bigger one.

"His Excellency the President and First Lady appreciate the ge sture and honour that have been given to the first family and they have asked me to extend their appreciation to the Gambia Football Association," visibly-elated Njie-Saidy told reporters. "And  I want to congratulate the winning team - Bakau. I understand they won it last year, but this time around it is a bigger win for the simple reason that the tournament has been changed to Muhammed Yahya Jammeh tournament [with an improved winner prizes]" "For Banjul, I hope that they would do better next time because they played well and I am sure they can do better next year."

"The President and the First Lady are looking forward to next year and definitely they value the support they have from the GFA". "Muhammed Yahya Jammeh is being represented by Ansumana Jammeh. The sisters of the President are also here representing the first family and that shows the support and the interest the first family has in the tournament."
