The office of the vice president, under the leadership of Her Excellency Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, vice president and secretary of state for Women's Affairs, yesterday, organised a sectoral meeting, which brought together all the sectors under her office.

The meeting was convened at the NaNa conference hall in Kanifing. The meeting which was graced by the vice president herself also saw in attendance Fatou Jassey-Kuyateh, permanent secretary at office of the vice president, and other dignitaries. Also in attendance were officials of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), Women's Bureau, National Disaster Management Council (NDMC), and the population secretariat.

The participants assembled to discuss issues surrounding their activities, project implementations, achievements and the way forward. Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Aja Ida Faye-Hydara, executive director of the Women's Bureau, said the meeting offered them the opportunity to review the activities they implemented during the course of October, November and December, last year.

She highlighted the inauguration of the Spanish African Women's Empowerment Project as one of those activities. For his part, Mama Nyang from the office of the vice president, who also represented the National Disaster Management Council (NDMC), elaborated on the achievements registered by his council since its establishment. His speech focused on the newly enacted disaster management bill.

Saikou Trawally, director of population, described the meeting as a "cleaning house"  for the sectors under the office of the vice president regarding the nature of the activities they undertake. Modou C Phall, executive director of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), expressed delight at hosting the meeting, while emphasising that it enabled the sectors involved to highlight pertinent issues regarding their mandates and activities.
