africa » gambia
Monday, November 24, 2008

Habibu Ceesay, a young journalist, working with the Business Digest, a bi-weekly business newspaper passed away on Saturday at his Busumbala residence.

The news of his death was received with shock coupled with sadness and grief by his friends and colleagues in the media.

This reporter who visited the bereaved family was told by Hassoum Ceesay, elder brother to Habibu Ceesay, that his brother had complained of stomachache upon returning from work.

Three of his colleagues, Robinson Obi-Egbedi, publisher of Business Digest; Ousman Kargbo, editor-in-chief, Business Digest; and Madi S Njie, chairperson, Network of Human Rights Journalists; who walked into the premises of the Daily Observer yesterday expressed their grief at his death.

According to Robinson, Ceesay's death has left a "vaccuum" in their paper which "will not be easy to fill". A charity for the deceased will be held at the family residence in Busumbala, this afternoon.
