- As Ramadan draws nearer -Imam Fatty calls for unity among MuslimsMonday, August 10, 2009 Abdoulie Fatty, the Imam of the State House Mosque, has called on Muslims to distance themselves from the non-Muslim practice of argument of the sighting of the moon, as Muslims around the world will be soon greeted by the Holy month of Ramadan. According to him, in the Muslim society, the Holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), has urged that if one person declares that he or she has sighted the moon, it should just be confirmed if the person is a Muslim and some one to be trusted. He said that if this person qualifies this, then Muslims have to start observing (fasting) the following day. Imam Fatty made these statements last Friday at the State House Mosque, while leading hundreds of Muslim worshippers in his Friday Khutba. He expressed disheartening about the way Muslims used to argue about the sighting of the Holy moon, which used to lead to Muslims starting their fasting in even three days intervals. Imam Fatty called on Gambian Muslims and all those around the world to try to follow the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his teachings and to avoid un-Islamic arguments in the sighting of the Holy moon. He prayed to Allah (The Almighty) to shower his blessings on the Muslims in the Holy month. Author: by Amadou Jallow | Media Actions See Also |
