At least 12 police officers from The Gambia Police Force (GPF) were recently promoted to cadet assistant superintendent of police (ASP), ASP and superintendent ranks.

The decoration ceremony was held on March 18th, 2009, at the police headquarters in Banjul. The promoted officers were Chief Inspector Yamundow Jagne-Joof, officer commanding the Child Welfare Unit of the Gambia Police Force, who was promoted to the rank of ASP; ASP Lamin King Colley of the Brikama Police Station and ASP Bojang of the Police Band, who were promoted to the rank of superintendent and 9 other officers from various ranks (sergeant, corporal, inspector, etc), who were promoted to the rank of cadet ASP.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ensa Badjie, Inspector General of Police (IGP), congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to do their work as expected. IGP Badjie stressed that disloyalty to the nation will never be compromised with in the police force.

For his part, Famara RI Jammeh, police adviser, reminded the newly promoted officers that "to whom much is given, much is expected". He advised them to live up to expectations. Modou Gaye, deputy inspector general of police, also expressed similar sentiments.
