Two ambassadors accredited to The Gambia Thursday presented their letters of credence to the president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh at State House in Banjul. Her Excellency Trudy Stevenson and Andradjati from Zimbabwe and Indonesia respectively are based in Dakar, Senegal.


First to present her credentials wasHigh Commissioner Stevenson of Zimbabwe who disclosed that part of her discussions with President Jammeh centered on ways to strengthen cooperation between Banjul and Harare. She expressed her willingness to build a stronger tie between the two nations putting emphasis more on strengthening cooperation in communication.


“We also discussed ways to explore in the areas of agriculture, environmental management, wildlife as well in trying to re-harmonise the education systems between the two countries that will open doors for exchange programmes,” she said.


She added:“It is good to strengthen links with English-speaking countries and this is going to be a great advantage. We are hoping to put in place cooperation for exchange programmes between Harare and Banjul. We have discussed strongly on these four main areas of cooperation, and we also intend to revive the exchange programme as soonest.”


For his part, Ambassador Andradjati, who is accredited to nine countries in Africa namely; Senegal, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon and Ivory Coast, pledged to enhance the bilateral relations and cooperation between Indonesia and The Gambia, particularly in the fields of economic, technical cooperation, agriculture, health and education among other sectors that may be interested to boost the cooperation.


Like the Zimbabwean diplomat, Ambassador Andradjati disclosed that his meeting with President Jammeh was fruitful as the Gambian leader encouraged him to do more on agriculture and direct trade relations between the two nations.
