2 docked for ‘possession of drugs’

Two people; namely, Ivan Cott and Ezes Conaq were last Thursday, 19th April 2012 arraigned before the Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court for the offence of being in possession of prohibited drugs, contrary to Section 351(a) of the Drug Act, Laws of The Gambia.


The particulars of the offence stated that Ivan Cott and Ezes Conaq on or about the 14th of April 2012 at the Sololo Check Point in the Central River Region (CRR), had in possession of 120 grams of Cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, thereby committed an offence. When the charge was read to the accused persons, the first accused pleaded not guilty.


The NDEA prosecutor, ASP Jobe applied for an adjournment to enable him get more the facts about the first accused person in the case.

However, the presiding magistrate ordered for the accused persons to be remanded in prison custody and the case was adjourned accordingly.
