2 remanded for burglary

Friday, September 18, 2009
The Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by Magistrate Joseph Ikpala, on Wednesday, remanded two men namely Ebrima Sonko and Lamin Jaiteh. They were arraigned and charged with housebreaking and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the duo on the 6th of September 2009 , at Pipeline, broke into the house of Basiru Manju Bah and stole a variety of items including a  gas cooker, DVD player, micro-wave, all valued at D23,500. When the charge sheet was read to them, the first accused, Ebrima Sonko, pleaded guilty.

They were refused bail when Cadet Inspector Mballow  informed the court that the duo was being investigated on another case of housebreaking and stealing as well as murder. Assan Martin, the counsel for the second accused, argued that the offence his client was charged is a bailable one but he was overruled.
