2 sureties arraigned, remanded
Friday, May 18, 2012
High Court presided over by Justice Joseph Ikpala Tuesday May 15th, 2012,
remanded two men-Edrissa Sowe, a
native of Basse and Demba Baldeh, a native of Mankamang Kunda in Jimara
District in the Upper River Region (URR).
The two served as sureties for their cousin, Buwaro Keita who is reported to have absconded to Guinea Conakry. Buwaro Keita, a teacher at Nasir Senior Secondary School in Basse, URR, was remanded at the JanJangbureh Prison for allegedly defiling an under-aged girl at the said school, sometime last year.
When the case was called at Tuesday’s sitting, Demba Baldeh, surety for the accused, told the court that Buwaro Keita did not abscond as alleged but travelled to Kundara in Guinea Conakry for treatment because he is sick. He informed the court that he (Baldeh) himself travelled to Kundara but could not meet Keita because he was told that Keita went to another village.
Edrissa Sowe, another surety for the accused, made similar narration. However, Justice Ikpala subsequently remanded the two sureties, Edrissa Sowe and Demba Baldeh at the JanJangbureh Prison. The case was then adjourned to the 7th June, 2012, for hearing.
