africa » gambia
Thursday, October 25, 2007

In a bid to complement traditional practices of the late Sheikh Al-Islam Alhagie Ibrahim Niass, federation of Jaminatu Ansarudeen will hold its annual Islamic congres from November   2nd-4rd, 2007.

In this regard, a meeting was on Wednesday held in Banjul in preparation for the congress.

Speaking at the meeting, Alasan Jagne, Secretary- General of the federation, disclosed that his organisation is the unbrella body for all the Islamic circles (Daara) that have pledged allegiance to Sieikh Al-Ibrahim Niass.

He added that the federation is made up of over 80 Islamic circles (Diaras), with a   membership   of 20,000.

According to him, their aims and objectives are to propagate Islam and to continue with the work of Sheikh Al-Ibrahim Niass.

Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass and his disciples follow the path of Sheikh Amat Tijan. According to him, the   congress will also dwell on the origin of Tariha. He thanked the Gambian leader,   President Yaya   Jammeh for his efforts in defending   Islam. The theme of this year's congress is "The contribiution of Tariha Tijania in   Islam and African Integration."

As the umbrella body of Niassen brotherhood in The Gambia, the Jamiatu Ansarudeen, seized the opportunity to reiterate its entire dissociation   from unislamic attitudes portrayed in the national TV.
