AG gives consent on Ceesay and Jones' case

africa » gambia
Wednesday, October 31, 2007

The Attorney-General Chambers has finally given permission to the Office of the Inspector-General of Police to go ahead with the prosecution of two journalists, namely Mam Sait Ceesay, former Press Officer at State House and Malick Jones, former Principal Producer at the GRTS radio, Daily Observer can reveal.

Our sources revealed that it's now left for the prosecution office to arrange with the court to set a date for the trial to commence.

It could be recalled that the stay-of-proceeding on this case came following arguments from both the Prosecution and Defence Counsel in the last proceeding that the case should not continue without the permission of the AG Chambers.

Mam Sait Ceesay and Malick Jones are standing trial for allegedly giving out information to foreign journalists.
