The demise of Baboucarr Gaye, a veteran in the media fraternity is like an extranet in the web  of Gambian journalism.  Although he's gone, Gambians of all walks of life shall forever remember him as one of their own indefatigable torch-bearers of truth.

Up to the time he was laid to rest yesterday, at Old Jeshwang Cemetery, many could hardly believe their ears that the indomitable spirit of Mr. Gaye has finally ascended to the Giver of life.

At a time when Gambian journalism was suffering from technical inertia, Mr Gaye and a few others stood valiantly in defence of the field of journalism.  Mr Gaye, who rarely minces his words in presenting news, succeeded to transform media landscape in The Gambia, by establishing a radio station and private newspaper- The citizen.

Today, the record has spoken for itself as most of the leading lights in the existing  media outlets in the country, have one way or the other passed through his hands.  Also, Mr Gaye has been instrumental in organising several training workshops, all of which have gone a long way towards contributing to the development of journalism on our shore.

We, therefore, salute his brevity and heroism. The thousands of mourners, who converged at his burial alone, speaks volume of his stance as a pacesetter, whose legendary shall shine forever. He will be greatly missed by all.
May his soul rest in peace.
