GTTI gets new students union executive

The Gambia Technical Training Institue (GTTI) on Tuesday November 6, 2007, held elections for the students' union executive at its campus in Kanifing.  The elections which started at 9:30 am, ended at 6:30pm. At least 1,118 students out of  1,500 voted in the election.

The positions that were contested for were the position of the president and the public relations officer (P.R.O).

Speaking to the Young Observer columnist, Adama Demba, Chairman of the elections committee said Morr B Ceesay, Alex Sylva, Palanding Manneh and Sheikh M.B Njie contested for the presidency, whilst Lamin Manka and Buba FM Jaiteh contested for the position of the P.R.O.

According to him, Mr. Demba Fatou Ndow, contested for the posistion of vice president, Ousainou Bobb, secretary general, Frank Enuson, sports coordinator, Ya Sanu Gomez, welfare minister and Fatou Ada Joof, executive coordinator and were all unopposed.,
Morr B Ceesay was duly elected as president and Lamin Manka was also duly elected as P.R.O.

Speaking after the elections, Ousainou Bobb, the unopposed candidate for the position of Secretary General, thanked all the students for their good behaviour throughout the  campaign and election process.

He assured them that he will live up to expectation. Lamin Manka, speaking earlier on thanked all the students who voted for him and called on his colleagues to work in unity and harmony, in order to fulfill their promises.

For her part, Fatou Ndow, the unopposed vice president of the students union said it is now time for them to work hard and fulfill their promises.
She also thanked all the students for their cooperation.
Morr B Ceesay, the elected President of the students union similarly expressed his felicitations to his supporters for electing him into the office. He promised to live up to expectations.
Meanwhile, many students who spoke to the Young Observer, described the elections as free and fair.
