I write to express my appreciation in the good work that your paper is doing.

I was very impressed to read about the rampant dumping of waste at New Jeswang in the Monday edition of your commendable paper.  This is indeed a cause for concern.
Sometimes it seems as if some people want to turn the whole country into one giant rubbish bin.  Everywhere you turn, you encounter garbage. People throw their garbage anywhere and anyhow they like without any regard as to the health of others or even their own health. It is high time that a stop is put to this.

The recent announcements in the media of fines for public littering could not have come at a better time. The President himself has expressed his concern and there can be no doubt as to his sincerity since he himself assented to the laws and has been calling for them to be enforced. We must all realise that efforts to clean up our streets are for the benefit of all and sundry.

Many a times, people like to engage in finger pointing and name calling. Nobody wants to accept the blame or the responsibility for the despicable state of our streets. Some will tell you that it is the area councils that are responsible, others that it is the residents of those areas. However, one thing is clear. We are all affected. If this trend continues, we will all be susceptible to various disease outbreaks.

We all need to play our parts. Let us come together and join the president in his quest to turn the country into a clean healthy place, where children can grow up in security and happiness.
Remember: Cleanliness is next to godliness.
