Taiwanese mobile medics leave Banjul

africa » gambia
Friday, December 28, 2007
An 11-member mobile medical team from Taiwan on Sunday left Banjul for Taipei, after a two-week working visit to The Gambia.

The team, which arrived in Banjul on December 9, were deployed at the Sulayman Junkung Hospital in Bwiam, Western Region, and AFPRC Hospital in Farafenni, North Bank Region Region, where they provided free-medical services to the rural community. They also reportedly treated patients at Sapu in Central River Region.

During the course of their operations, the team was privileged to witness President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh's herbal treatment for asthma and hypertensive patients, at his home village in  Kanilai in Foni Kansala, Western Region.

The team sponsored by the Taiwan International Cooperation Development Fund, also donated a consignment of medical supplies worth thousands of Dalasis. The team was head by Dr Jefferey Chan.

Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese ambassador to The Gambia, hosted two dinners for the team since their arrival in Banjul. He commended them for helping restore the health of the sick in the country.
