Thank you for providing me a space in your widely read newspaper.

I wish to express my disappointment on the way the authorities are handling the recent transport problems in the Greater Banjul Area.

Frequent and daily commuters find themselves in a hellfire situation at garages and along the highways scrambling for vehicles to  Banjul especially those from Tabokoto to Banjul.

To me, the authorities are to be blamed but not the drivers. For example, from Banjul to Tabokoto is D5.00, Banjul - Serrekunda D5.00. What difference does it make? Even if it were me and the authorities concerned as well, we will rather ply Banjul - Serrekunda rather than Banjul - Tabokoto.

Take into account the cost of fuel, and the distance from Banjul and the comfortable nature of the road. All sane minded people including the authorities, if they were in the position of the drivers, would have done the same as the drivers. It does not make sense to allow the drivers to charge D5.00 from Banjul to Serrekunda and D5.00 from Banjul Tabokoto, comparing the distance.

Please don't fool people by unnecessarily cracking down on drivers. Why can't you set up necessary laws which will suit all and sundry by equating fares to distance. I solely blame the authorities for the recent transport chaos in the Great Banjul Area.

Am urging the authorities to look into this urgent issue.
