The outgoing students' union executive at GTTI, on Wednesday December 6,  2007, handed over power to the incoming executive, at a ceremony held at the institute's campus in Kanifing.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sainabou Ceesay, Career Guidance and Counselling officer said her duty is to receive students and listen to their academic problems, and suggest ways and means of solving those problems.

She advised students to work hard to achieve their goals.

Batch Samba, outgoing students' union president urged his successor,  Morr B Ceesay and  his team to work hard for the benefit of students. He thanked the management of the institute for the support and cooperation given to him during his tenure as president of the union.

For his part, Morr B. Ceesay, president of the students' union, assured the students that he will work hard as promised.

He further assured them that he will work with the administration to solve the teacher shortage, provide a mini-bus for the students and rehabilitate the student union telecentre, among others.

Speaking earlier, Dembo Jobarteh, outgoing secretary general of the union said the outgoing council had a vision to oversee the activities and welfare of the students in the institute, in consultation with the management.

He advised the incoming council to work hard and live up to expectation.

Ebrima Sanneh, president of the National Union of Gambian Students (NUGS) also dwelled on the characteristics of a good leader and advised the students to co-operate with their executive and work hard.

Ousainou Bobb, secretary-general of the students' union delivered the vote of thanks.
