Friday, January 25, 2008

The Young Journalist Association of The Gambia (YJAG), will be officially launched on Thursday 31 January, 2008.

Founded on 16 September 2007, YJAG is poised to address issues of common concern among young journalists including capacitise young journalists, facilitate the enrolment and encouragement of young people in the profession, among others.

Speaking to Young Observer's anchorman,  Nfamara Jawneh, President of YJAG said, all plans are put in place ahead of the launching, adding that the only constrains they face is on the side of finance. "We are really in need of financial resources to fund this high profile launching ceremony. Although we have some money, we still need more to make the launching a success", Jawneh added.

According to him, the launching of the association will be a milestone in the history of Gambian journalism, as it will bring together all members of the media fraternity in both the print and electronic media in The Gambia. He revealed that Neneh Macdouall Gaye, secretary of state for Communication, Information Technology, will be the Chief Guest of Honour, together with other media chiefs,  stakeholders, foreign diplomats amongst others. He called on all stakeholders to support YJAG, noting that investing in young people is essential in nation building.

The Association can be reached on the following numbers for any kind of assistance: 9868882 or 7000388.
